Research Statement

My research focuses on exploring the less explored metalloenzymes participating in hydrocarbon biosynthesis pathways. Currently, I am working on an integral membrane protein responsible for fatty acid decarboxylation to produce terminal alkenes. Despite being discovered nearly a decade ago, this enzyme is still not studied thoroughly owing to its recalcitrant membrane bound nature.

Our group is trying to decipher the mechanistic and structural aspects of the enigmatic enzyme leveraging the tools of chemistry, molecular biology and protein chemistry. The insights gained will help exploit this enzyme for industrial biocatalysis along with filling the voids in the knowledge bank of such proteins.
